I drew this girl in my sketchbook this morning. I’ve tried to reproduce her on an index card several times, but I can’t.
I am not quite sure what inspired it. I think it must be the Blessed Virgin Mary, the day after Jesus died. She spent all Saturday longing for Easter Sunday, sad and waiting.
I think it’s also a portrait of my soul. In Catholic theology, each person’s soul is the same gender as their body. But in another sense—in relation to Jesus—all souls are female.
I pray every day. But God has not yet answered any of my prayers. I hope he will, one day. But for now, I am waiting.
I named this drawing waiting. I drew it while watching this recent Jacob Collier video. Life is so beautiful.
I will be in Chicago on Easter, and then gone for a while. I trust none of you will miss me too much while waiting.
