This past week, I told a few people that there’s a chapter in my upcoming book about the “theology of boobs.” I worded it this way as a joke, but I’m concerned I was misunderstood.

The famous Pope John Paul II had a series of lectures which were called Theology of the Body, and which was later compiled into a book. He may be my favorite philosopher of all time, and this is one of my favorite theology books ever. He’s also the author of my favorite movie ever, which is essentially a philosophical treatise, and which I wrote an article and did a survey about.

In this book, St. John Paul II connects countless Bible verses together to draw many conclusions about personhood, gender, sexuality, and marriage. There is a chapter in my book about gender, which draws on this a little further, making new or passed over connections.

But it is both unfitting and unnecessary for a Catholic theologian to be vulgar. My book does not contain any such vulgarity. So it causes me a little embarrassment that I made that vulgar comment twice now.

As an example of a point my book makes, it is interesting that we call the eye a window into a person’s soul, just as Jesus calls the eye “the lamp of the body.” And the eye has three circles (sclera, iris, and pupil), each within the other, yet is one distinct whole. This mirrors the Trinity, who is one single Being, but also three distinct persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, each residing within the other in an infinitely recursive union. There are a few conclusions we can draw from all these facts.

There are also some comparisons to help define male and female by examining the sun and moon, and comparing them to Adam and Eve, as well as to Jesus and Mary, to draw some conclusions about what characteristics are fitting or not per gender, and what effects these tend to have.

Obviously I can’t go into detail here, as then I’d just be repeating what’s in my book. Anyway, I hope this clears things up, and explains what I meant. My bad.
